Frequently Asked Questions

A deposit of one-night room and tax is required to confirm your reservation. The remaining balance of your stay will automatically be charged (14) fourteen days before arrival unless arranged otherwise with our office. Please note initial rates provided are for two adults and one child. Extra guests are allowed, up to room capacity, with a charge of $15 per adult per night, and $10 per child per night. Additional occupant charges are reflected in the rate when disclosed at the time of booking and can be adjusted by contacting our office.

If you need to cancel your reservation for First Colony Inn, you will receive a full refund if cancelled more than 48 hours before arrival unless arranged otherwise by our office. Travel insurance is highly recommended.

The First Colony Inn has keyless entry. At 4:00 PM check in time, you may proceed directly to your room. You will receive your door code and detailed check in instructions by email and text prior to check in day. Additional check in and island information for confirmed reservations can be found in the guest portal using the link at the top of the page.

Check-out is at 11:00 am. We are unable to accommodate late check outs.

First Colony Inn is pleased to share that we have partnered with the Pritchard Family, owners of The Dunes Restaurant and The Grits Grill, to provide an exceptional local breakfast experience for our guests. Both restaurants are located just minutes from the inn, making it easy to start your day with a delicious meal before you head out to explore the Outer Banks.

Each morning, please stop by the front desk to pick up your breakfast voucher. Your voucher may be redeemed for a complimentary breakfast at either The Dunes Restaurant or The Grits Grill; simply present it to your server before placing your order. Available breakfast selections are listed on the back of your voucher so you can choose the option that works best for you.

The Dunes Restaurant is open every day except Tuesday, and The Grits Grill is open seven days a week, giving you flexibility throughout your stay. We hope you enjoy starting your morning at two of the most popular breakfast spots on the beach.

Rooms are serviced every day and include fresh bath towels, toiletries and trash removal. Towels on the floor will be exchanged. Staying 5 days or longer? Bed linens will be changed every fourth day for stays over 5 days.

Our pool is open from late May through mid-October, weather permitting. Our pool hours are from 10 am to dusk, daily. Minors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, in the pool area.

The upstairs library is a great place to read, play cards, or work on a puzzle. You will find plenty of books ready to be borrowed during your stay, area maps, and brochures available for guest use, and a card/game table offering ocean views. The library is open for use from 9 am – 5 pm, daily. Seasonal amenities include an on-site outdoor pool, various yard games, and beach chairs. Direct private beach access is located just across the beach road (Virginia Dare Trail) from First Colony Inn.

Our quiet hours begin at 9 pm nightly. Loud voices, horseplay, running/jumping, etc., in the room or along the decks will not be permitted. If we receive a noise complaint for your room our desk will provide a courtesy reminder, if a second complaint is received you may be asked to leave.
