"We stayed here during the off season. The rate was cheap but the service and accommodations were top notch. We checked in after 10pm but our keys were left for us and the lights were left on for arrival. First impressions driving up in the dark were great with the twinkle lights in the front bushes. The sign out front was easy to spot from the road even after dark. Our room had plenty of space including several chairs and the bed. The whole facility including our room was full of beautiful real-wood furniture which made it seem high class. The staff was very friendly and helpful each morning for breakfast. The breakfast was fresh cooked buffet with cold fruit and cereal as well. We especially liked the spicy shrimp quiche. The walk to the beach was very short on a private boarded walk. There is plenty of outdoor space to enjoy in the backyard as well including the pool a large deck and several hammocks. This was a great location to explore the entire outer Banks. We used it as a base of operations to visit from Ocracoke to Currituck. Jockeys Ridge is about a 5m drive north."

"This historic inn provides a relaxing place to rest while exploring OBX. They have a complimentary wine and cheese social hour, and a home cooked breakfast quiche, and pastries every morning. There's not an elevator, but the first 2 floors are easy to negotiate."

"Unique place to stay in the OBX - The First Colony Inn B & B is unique to the Outer Banks. It has all the charm and ambiance that today's chain hotels lack. The staff is pleasant, the food is wonderful, and the setting is amazing. First Colony is situated on 4 acres -totally unheard of when considering the over-building in general. This will be where we will stay on future visits to Nags Head."

"1930s Charm with Modern Amenities - The First Colony is amazing. A beautiful historic inn in Nags Head complete with a library. The rooms are named after colonist from The Lost Colony. The library has logs dating back to 1940's. The room was spacious and comfortable with so much privacy we felt like we did not have neighbors. The breakfast was wonderful. We could not have imagined a better place to stay."
