"Wonderful stay! - Am very familiar with the Outer Banks having visited for many years during the summer months and staying either oceanfront or soundfront. This was a Fall visit and the First Colony Inn was a perfect location due to easy access via a designated boardwalk across the beach road and free parking accessed from the bypass. An added bonus was the free bikes available. The mattress could use an update, but didn't keep us from a restful sleep. Can't wait til next Fall for a return trip."

"Our regret is our stay was too short - My Sweetheart and I are on a grand tour of North Carolina, visiting the mountains and the coast. We stayed in 5 hotels in 5 nights and booked this room on the way to the Outer Banks. We read "historic inn" and saw the pictures - from experience this could either be a good thing or bad. We figured, "What the heck?" If it was horrible, it was only one night. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! We arrived after dark as the charming desk clerk was closing shop - he was leaving us a note and the keys and greeted me by name! (And he pronounced it correctly, too). The room was charming and comfortable. We rocked on the rockers, strolled down the path to the private entrance to the beach, and enjoyed visiting with total strangers in the breakfast room. The room and the experience were a steal at this weekday price, and we truly regretted we had to move along the next day. We dawdled - not wanting this to end too soon. The only negatives (very, very minor) was the size of the TV screen and the underwhelming breakfast. Since our return home, we've been telling everyone they need to stay here for charm, ambiance, and close access to everything enjoyable. Although we don't typically stay the same place twice, we're already talking about our next visit here."

"Pleasant surprise. - My wife and I made a last minute reservation at this hotel for one night. Having never been to the Outer Banks, we had no good perspective on the area or the accommodations that were available. We were pleasantly surprised with everything that the First Colony had to offer. The room had an old-style charm to. The wine social in the afternoon was nice and very relaxing. Short private walk to the beach. Small, clean pool was refreshing. Breakfast was outstanding."

"OBX History with modern amentities! - Great 2 night getaway with the hubby without our 5 kids. We visit OBX every year for a week stay in a large oceanfront home. This quiet, relaxed and historical in was perfect for a day and a half of relaxation... Look up the history, which I didn't know even after spending 38 years at this beach."

"The Perfect Place to Stay on Nags Head!!!! - The First Colony Inn is outstanding! The Inn Keeper, Candace, is warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. Hannah was delightful to interact with and each member of the staff offer exceptional customer service. The breakfasts, with fresh fruit, pastries, egg dishes, yogurts, granola and oatmeal are delicious and included in the room rate; what a great way to start the day! We looked forward to a refreshing glass of ice tea or lemonade, sweets, and wine and cheese every afternoon. The rooms open to wrap around porches with porch swings and rocking chairs. The beautiful beach is 3 minutes away and umbrellas are on the property and free to use without additional charge; we'd jump in the pool after a hot day at the beach. We played chess in the Virgiia Dare library in air- conditioned comfort; what a lovely inn; I was sad to leave and can't wait to return. There is no nicer place to stay. Loved, loved, loved it!"

"Just What We'd Hoped For... - We prefer smaller properties like this one and truly enjoyed staying here. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The grounds are lovely, and the hotel is unique."

"Best place to stay in Nags Head - We had never been to the OBX and we had a couple of days without the kids so I decided to surprise the wife. Not knowing where to stay and only having a couple of days to spend, I knew a house was out and needed to find a hotel or B&B. After much deliberation and research, I booked the First Colony Inn. It was highly rated, had a B&B feel and was close to the beach. That and it was pretty centrally located so we could explore the OBX in the short time we had. This inn was very clean and well maintained. Even though the hotel wasn't right on the beach, it was just a short walk across one street to the beach. Complimentary beach chairs and umbrellas made it easy to go. The pool area was very clean and refreshing. The afternoon happy hour with snacks and complementary wine was also nice. At night, the room was well air conditioned and very nice. The bathrooms were sized nicely and we enjoyed the bubble bath in the jetted tub followed by the complementary robes. Breakfast was also very good with a good selection of breads, cereals, pastries and of course the main dishes which varied daily. We had quiche one day and biscuits gravy and eggs the next. The staff was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about this historic inn. This place was cool with alot of history from the area and unique charm that you only get from a B&B/Inn. I wouldn't have traded it for the hotel across the street which was very, well...hotel like. I'd recommend this hotel for anyone."

"Lovely weekend at the beach - My husband and I spent a lovely weekend at this Inn. The location is great, right across the street from the beach which is accessed by a private boardwalk. The hotel has beach chairs, umbrellas and beach towels to use as well as bikes. Breakfast was included but it was mostly the usual continental breakfast items. The hotel is close to many restaurants and shops you can walk to. We stayed in a king room which was very spacious and quiet however we found the mattress to be a bit strange, too fluffy, but some people probably like a nice soft mattress. We especially loved the porch swings on a nice breezy summer evening! Great stay."

"Ett klassiskt badhotell - Ett mycket charmigt badhotell från 1932 - det enda kvarvarande av det slag som dominerade badlivet i början av förra seklet. Nu officiellt klassificerat som byggnadsminne. Mycket trevlig personal, en god frukost med det man kan önska sig, cyklar till lån, afternoon tea som även innebar vin för den som så önskade vilket allt ingår i priset för rummet. Vi återkommer gärna då Outer banks i sig också är en upplevelse."

"Stay here and be charmed. - I could go on and on about this place but the service at desk and housekeeping was outstanding, everyone was very friendly. Though early in the season, no employee there seemed worn down by the incessant questions by tourists of where to go and where to eat. Rooms were absolutely gorgeous, full of antiques (building is from 1932); I would recommend this to anyone that wants to stay in a place with class and has character as opposed to some modern cookie-cutter hotel. Full A+ all the way."
